Homegrown Hottie: Eli Kim

Kim Kyoung-Jae or Ellison Kim, commonly known as Eli is our next homegrown hottie. Eli is part of U-Kiss which is the same group that is home to fellow homegrown hottie Kevin Woo. Eli was born in LA but raised in Virginia. He dropped out of high school and travelled to Beijing to further his studies. He also learned some Mandarin while he was there. Eli debuted with the U-kiss in 2008 as their main rapper.

In addition to being in U-Kiss, Eli starred in the Thai drama Autumn Destiny, alongside Kibum who is an ex member of U-Kiss. I don’t know much about the show other then the fact that Eli and Kibum had their parts dubbed because they don’t speak the language. Eli also has the nickname pigeon because of his awesome imitation of a bird and I mean a really awesome imitation of it. You can check it out here.

I hate the fact that there are so many conflicting stories out on the internet about the idols I write about. That’s the main reason why the homegrown hotties posts are rather short. It isn’t because I don’t like them, I absolutely love them. I just hate to write something that isn’t true. Perhaps once I finish learning how to read and understand Korean, I’ll have better luck. In the mean time, enjoy the pics of Eli. I know I will 🙂

Homegrown Hottie: Kevin Woo

Our next homegrown hottie is Kevin Woo from U-Kiss. Kevin was born in San Fransico, California and lived there until he was 15 before moving to Seoul to pursue his dream of becoming a singer. He debuted with a group named Xing in 2006 along side Kim Kibum. Kevin stayed with Xing until 2008, when he joined U-Kiss. I’ve been reading a lot about Kevin recently and have come to the conclusion that he is one of the sweetest, most adorable guys out there. He hasn’t been in any scandals and seems to be very respectful to the Korean culture despite being born and raised in America. He’s really active on his twitter account and always seems to be upbeat. I just want to shrink him down so I can stick him on my key chain! Does that sound creepy? I don’t care because he is so adorable!

Speaking of (slightly) creepy, I found a picture of Kevin dressed as a woman for an episode as Star King. He really looks…pretty. The video is hysterical though so if you have time, check it out here.

Homegrown Hottie: Jay Park

I talked about homegrown hotties in my last post on the SME Global Auditions. The men were ultra sexy and deserve to have the spotlight shined on them, individually. The first homegrown hottie is none other than Jay Park. Jay, who was born and raised in Washington State, showed an early interest in the hip-hop culture, specifically b-boying. For those who don’t know, a b-boy is someone who break-dances. He auditioned for JYP when he was 17 and was brought to Korea to undergo what I like to call “Idol Training”. Idol Training is for all budding kpop artist. They undergo months, if not years of dance and singing lessons. Since Jay was a Korean-American, he also had to receive Korean language and cultural lessons.

In 2008, 2PM debut with Jay Park as their leader and quickly rose to fame.
Jay would eventually have to withdraw from 2PM due to some controversial comments against Korea he posted on his Myspace page. I personally think the netizens blew it out of proportion. How would they feel if they had to leave their home and live a new country where they didn’t know the language or have any friends. JYP released him from his contract and he returned to the States. He made his comeback through Youtube by posting videos of himself break dancing and singing. In 2010 he returned to Korea and in April of 2011, he released a mini-album as a solo artist. He plans on releasing a full length album in January 2012. As you can see from the pictures, Jay Park looks good in and out of clothes but good grief, please raise your hand if you want to see more pictures with him shirt-less. 🙂
