One Webster’s dictionary definition of “competitiveness” is “having a strong desire to compete or to succeed”. Wouldn’t you agree that Bi has this very quality, that is to say, a “can’t lose” and “need to succeed” attitude? Normally, I don’t like competitive people. They are driven to a fault, and will not let anything or anyone distract them or stand in their way. If you deal with these types of people in the workplace or even in your family, it can be very frustrating and can even cause you to distance yourself from them. However, recognizing this quality from afar in Bi, I find it quite admirable.I think the reason for Bi’s competitiveness is 1) his inborn personality/tendency, and 2) struggles he endured and what he perceived to be the world’s abandonment of him–especially, at a time when he needed its support the most. He’s been through alot and come a long way, but it wasn’t always so easy for him. Dealing with the death of his mother and poverty, he knew that he would have to be the best of the best to get where he wanted to go. For this reason, its no wonder that he is at the top of his game and probably the most popular entertainer in Asia. At 29, in showbusiness, he’s considered to be “older”, and there are hordes of new male K-pop and Asian acts up and coming, just ready to claim the crown from him as the “King of Pop” (in Asia, at least). He knows this and reinvents his style to appeal to not only loyal fans that have loved and followed him for nearly a decade, but also to new, younger fans. He has said numerous times that he feels that he has to constantly come up with ways to make himself irreplaceable, and that in order to be unforgettable, he must have the one thing that everyone else doesn’t have.
Have you ever seen him compete physically? If he competes next to other men, his competitiveness really shows. There’s this hungry beast that comes out and puts the other men to shame…nuff said. I do, however, hope that his competitiveness hasn’t taken the joy out of his social and dating life. Speaking of which, I will be blogging sometime later on about what it may be like to date him. Inquiring minds want to know!
Oh, and he probably doesn’t like to be compared either. Case in point: When told by an interviewer that he was considered the “Korean Justin Timberlake” in America, he responded, “I like his music, but…I’m Rain.” Tell ’em Bi 😉

I saw that interview…he was promoting Ninja Assassin along with the director James McTeigue. I laughed when I saw him say that. Yeah, he likes to do his best in everything put before him. He probably competes with himself more than with others, but if he has to compete with others……that’s your (___) jack! If he can help it. (SMILES)

The one thing we can thank JYP for is that he was able to recognize the “hungry tiger” within a very young JiHoon when he did. Now the world has been gifted with another incredible talent. So, Thanks JYP! Watching Bi’s blossoming from a boy into a man, the two things that were always consistent throughout was his focus and drive.
Rain really has an amazing intensity to everything that he does and in my opinion, it is one of the many things that make him irreplaceable. I have yet to see any of these other acts match his drive, hunger, and talent. They just don’t want it as bad and don’t work as hard.
Oh, and the Justin T. comparisons are hilarious and baseless. I would be so annoyed every time a reporter brought that up if I were Rain.

I dont get the Justin comparison. Now I use to be a huge Justin fan back in the day so I can say I dont see how they’re alike at all. Justin is real smooth and cool on stage and Bi is kinda like living sex from what I’ve seen. I’m not even a Bi fan (ironic I know) but I think Bi gives 150% on stage while Justin just gives 100 you know what I mean???

I miss the longer style hair on him
You know…I’ve learned about Bi of this blog for year and some days. Initially, I had no idea who he was,but I learned about who he was because he was one of the main characters off Ninja Assassin.
Now that that I have..and still is learning about him, he is definitely a man that is worthy of praise. Bi deserves every piece of good that awaits him and it’s not because I’ve became a recent fan of his. He’s just a hard worker..a guy who was willing to take chances. He was the hardest working person in Korea. If it weren’t for him, the idea of K-pop wouldn’t be as better known as it is today. I was just reading about Big Bang’s big win in Ireland at the MTV world awards. I not going to take away their talents,but just like some stars going to the podium thanking God and who ever for their success, this is what Big Bang and every other K-pop performer should be doing for Rain. He was the one who made Korea well-known and if it wasn’t for him K-pop be as big as it increasingly is.

I know exactly what you mean. When you see him do those challenges on those game shows or like that wrestling match in downtown Korea (I think it was), he just taps into that male testosterone. On HIM, going into “man mode” is like you say…..Hella Sexy! I love to see a man work his “jelly” when he’s in his own element. Love that “ish!” (SMILES)
To me, Rain is already Irreplaceable!! If it wasnt for Rain, I wouldnt have given South korea’s Kpop and Kdrama a chance.. I have already put him in the category with Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Jet Li, and these men are legends in my book!!
I agree Angel. Rain will definitely be one of those names mentioned among the greats in Asian entertainment history. America has no idea what’s about to hit these shores. Personally, I think the American mainstream will come to know him like Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee was my first entree into Asian culture when I was a kid. Rain will be that for this generation. It’s like even if you are a person who doesn’t necessarily watch martial arts films, you still know who Bruce Lee is. Rain will have that kind of recognition here (IMO). Sorry, I don’t wanna let myself stray too far off the subject. (SMILES)
