[M/V] Arashi – Monster

Five piece J-pop boyband Arashi (meaning “storm” in Japanese) has recently released an album with “Monster” as their first single. “Monster” is not my favourite song, but I’m willing to give it a few more tries. Some may argue that it is not as good as the songs being spit out by the well-oiled machine that is K-pop, but I really don’t think that comparing J-pop to K-pop is comparing apples to apples. We’re talking comparing apples to some exotic, unknown, weird-tasting fruit only available in its native country, which is some remote island that you can only reach during certain times of the year by boat (and you gotta climb a 40-ft tree to pick). Yeah, two totally different things. At any rate: Enjoy and let me know your thoughts!
P.S. – Having MatsuJun as the lead singer is an added bonus. He’s *gorgeous*! 😉

Who I am Bitofabelly81 aka boab81, founder of Black Women Love Bi (BWLB): An Asian Men Appreciation Blog Why Because I love Bi/Rain/비/Jung Jihoon. I have never been inspired to start a blog/site for any celebrity/public figure, until I learned about Bi. He is the whole reason this blog exists. If it weren't for him, I would know nothing about the world of K-pop (which I adore), nor would I care. I am also a big fan of Japan and all things Japanese. I strive to feature men of all Asian ethnicities on the blog, but since K-pop and Hallyu are very popular, this blog has a tendency to lean more towards features on Korean men. 1. I’m not sure if anyone on here watches Japanime, but this definately sounds like a song that would be used in the opening credits to an Anime.. I’m gonna listen to it a couple of more times to see if I like it by the end of the week… But they are cute though, and one of the guys looks like the main actor from “Hana yori Dango”..

  2. I like this song actually. It reminds me of Super Junior’s music from 5 years ago. Yeah, Jun Matsumoto is a cutie for sure but I’ve liked Kazunari Ninomiya too since I saw him in “Letters From Iwo Jima”.

  3. I have yet to “dip my feet” into Jpop or J-anything. With that said, yes, I do agree you cannot compare Kpop to Jpop or Kpop to American pop. Each has its own style (even though people like to compare or suggest that Kpop artist are trying to mimic Apop) and should be given its props for their work! I listened to this and I did get the anime feel but I do like looking at the eye candy! Thank you for sharing…I will have to one day delve into this Jpop world….

  4. Yes! It’s about time that someone posted about Arashi. I just love them. They have been around since 1999. They’re so hot. I just love them all equally. 🙂

  5. I’m not much of a fan of Arashi of Johnny’s Entertainment groups, but this is what I know about them. I don’t know much about their music because I think they have horrible voice, but they’re music is often tied to some drama show or commercial (they did “Love So Sweet” for Hana Yori Dango). Like Nicole said they’ve been around since ’99 and I think of Japan’s biggest selling groups (but not as big as SMAP or Kinki Kids though). I mostly know these guys because all of them are prominent actors. I’d say at least one of them is in a drama series per season. Jun is mostly known for his role in Hana Yori Dango, but he was also in Bambino, Kimi wa Petto, and Smile. They also usually host a late night variety show which is pretty common with JE groups (Kinki Kids, KAT-TUN, SMAP, and members of V6 have had their own shows as well).

  6. It’s different. I don’t mind different. No, the dance moves aren’t as slick as the K-Pop boys but it was good, very Edward Scissorhands-ish (without the scissors).

  7. Not a fan of it. I actaully don’t know any japanese pop songs made by men other than Chemistry but its mostly women I know. I usually prefer japanese rock songs, so this definitely isn’t my cup of tea.
